GETTING READY TO LEARN
MAKING TRANSITION FROM SCHOOL TO UNIVERSITY
There is huge differences between high school and university. In school teacher will guide you in your`s study but in university lecturer will just lecture you and you need to do all the rest by yourself.

MODULE 5
MEMORY,IMPROVISING & READING SYSTEM
Our lecturer(Dr.Agustono Wibowo)have explained to us about this topic,he said mempoy is vital for human if they want to remember what they learn.
a)Memory and learning
THE DEFINITION OF MEMORY
MEMORY:Memory is the faculty of the brain by which data or information is encoded, stored, and retrieved when needed. It is retention of information over time for the purpose of influencing action like computer software. The brain is the organ like computer hardware.
b)The storage
There are 3 types of memory:
Sensory memory:Sensory memory holds sensory information less than one second after an item is perceived. The sensory memory acquired 5 sense to be functional such as touch, see, talk, hear, and smell.
Short-term memory:Short-term memory allows recall for a period of several seconds to a minute without rehearsal.
Long-term memory:The storage in sensory memory and short term memory generally has a strictly limited capacity and duration, which means that information is not retained indefinitely.By contrast, contrast ,long-term memory can store much larger quantities of information for potentially
Memory Strategies
How forgetting could occur
How to improve our memory
Activity 8:Concentration Chart
Our lecturer ask us to do a concentration chart.

Memory Strategies
How forgetting could occur
- Did not pay attention
- Lack of rest and sleep
- poor health and defective mental state
- raise in information
- Last minute study
How to improve our memory
- Give your brain an exercise
- Get an enough sleep and rest
- Eat food that improve our memory such as fish oil
- Always do a revision after classes
Activity 8:Concentration Chart
Our lecturer ask us to do a concentration chart.
MODULE 6
TAKING LECTURE NOTES
Why taking lecture notes?
- Only 10 percent of an audio lecture may last in memory, but student who take and review note can recall about 80 percent of a lecture.
- Organized notes will help you identify the core of important ideas in the lecture.
- Help us revise before exam
How to take lecture notes?
1.Don`t write down every single word-The key is striking a balance-listen up,and jot down particular phrases you think are important.
2.Use a dictaphone-If you`re slow writer or struggle a bit with taking notes, using a dictaphone to record lectures is a good backup in case you`re worried about missing anything.
3.Pay attention-Beware that zoning ou tin class just means more time catching up on what you missed later on ,or becoming frustrated because you dont understand something
4.Highlight,underline and capitalise-If your lecturer is stressing something important, drawing attention to certain words or phrases in whatever way you see fit will help you remember how important it is
Before class.
- Review the notes from the day before
- Review your reading assignment
- Make sure you have paper, text, handout

Calculating CGPA
Represent student academic achievement
ACTIVITY 11
CALCULATING GPA
1.Calculate what would've happened if Amelia scored B in Chemistry?
Her GPA would be 3.06
2.What is the difference in GPA ?
3.06-2.75
=0.31
3.Now calculate Amelia GPA for the next semester;
4.What would happen if Amelia had received D in Cell Bio instead of the B+?
If Amelia received D,her GPA will drop to 2.28
5.What is the difference in GPA?
=2.80-2.28
=0.52
6.What is the difference in CGPA in semester 1 and her CGPA in the 2nd semester
2.77-2.75
=0.02
7.What does Amelia have to do in order to achieve a GPA of 3.00 in the 2nd semester if her CGPA falls below 2.50 in the 1st semester?
Amelia must score at least B in Intro Physics, and Writing in Biology.
